Control of Flow Past a Circular Cylinder Using a Rotating Control Rod

نویسندگان

چکیده

Control of flow past a circular cylinder using rotating control rod is investigated by conducting two-dimensional numerical simulations with Reynolds number 200, rod-to-cylinder diameter ratio 0.2, gap position angles the between 0° and 180°, rotation rates −7 7. The rate positive if rotates in anticlockwise direction. aim this paper to discover effects angle on control. If placed at side (position = 90°) or nearly 45° 135°), affects three ways, depending its rate: (1) strong negative weakens free shear layers reduces lift; (2) through interferes vortex shedding when small either direction; (3) enhances increases lift coefficient. Placing immediately front behind 180°) causes reduction coefficient for all rates.

and suppressing fluctuating amplitude of the dynamic wind loads acting on the test model. With 24 suction/jet holes evenly distributed over the cylindrical test model (i.e., the N13 design of the present study), the passive jet control method was found to be able to achieve up to 33.7 % in drag reduction and 90.6 % in fluctuating wind loading suppression, in comparison with the baseline case. Numerical Simulation of Fluid Flow Past a Square Cylinder Using a Lattice Boltzmann Method

The method of lattice boltzmann equation(LBE) is a kinetic-based approach for fluid flow computations. In the last decade, minimal kinetic models, and primarily the LBE, have met with significant success in the simulation of complex hydrodynamic phenomena, ranging from slow flows in grossly irregular geometries to fully developed turbulence, to flow with dynamic phase transitions. In the presen...

Axi-symmetric Stagnation–Point Flow and Heat Transfer Obliquely Impinging on a Rotating Circular Cylinder

Laminar stagnation flow, axi-symmetrically yet obliquely impinging on a rotating circular cylinder, as well as its heat transfer is formulated as an exact solution of the Navier-Stokes equations. Rotational velocity of the cylinder is time-dependent while the surface transpiration is uniform and steady. The impinging stream is composed of a rotational axial flow superposed onto irrotational rad...

Optimal control of circular cylinder wakes using long control horizons

The classical problem of suppressing vortex shedding in the wake of a circular cylinder by using body rotation is revisited in an adjoint-based optimal control framework. The cylinder’s unsteady and fully unconstrained rotation rate is optimized at Reynolds numbers between 75 and 200 and over horizons that are longer than in previous studies, where they are typically of the order of a vortex sh...

Suppression of Vortex Shedding from a Circular Cylinder by using a Suction Flow Control Method

An experimental study was conduct to suppress the vortex shedding from a circular cylinder by using a suction flow control method. The suction flow control was accomplished using two suction holes located on the test cylinder model at an angle of 90.0 degrees in relation to the oncoming flow direction. In addition to measuring the pressure distributions around the test model, a high-resolution ...
